Char Novack was born May 16, 1946 in Berkeley, California. She lived in the Oakland area for about five or six years, then moved to southern California where she lived for about ten years before moving to Hawaii with her foster parents. While in Hawaii she attended Hawaiian Mission Academy, in Honolulu, for her Junior and Senior years. The two years spent in Hawaii were very enjoyable for Char. There were outings to the beach, with family and friends, to picnic, surf, and snorkel. Char was benefit chairperson for the class her senior year, and spent hours planning and organizing a benefit program to raise money for the senior class graduation which took place in June, 1964. Her college years were spent at Pacific Union College from 1964 to 1969. During those years Char was involved as an officer in the Modern Language Club, the Hawaiian Club, and the Girls' Club. The most challenging, but fun time, was her semester as the Girls' Club president. During those years she also worked at Pinecrest Camp for two summers. Char received her B.A. at PUC in 1969 with a Social Science Major and a Library Science Minor. At the same college she completed a Masters Degree in Elementary Education in the summer of 1973. Char and Ray were married, August 8, 1972, at the Hillcrest Seventh-day Adventist Church in Bakersfield, California. Char had taught 6th grade for two years at the Bakersfield Adventist Academy Elementary School. Her first year of teaching she taught 33 sixth graders! It was a busy, but fun year. For one year Char and Ray lived in Angwin, California where Ray finished his B.A. in Chemistry and Char taught 6th grade, and 7th and 8th grade English. Two of the years that Ray attended Loma Linda School of Dentistry, Char taught 5th and 6th grades at the Yucaipa SDA School. Both children were born at the Loma Linda Adventist Hospital; Michael Raymond Copithorne, August 12, 1974, and Cheryl Marie Copithorne, April 29, 1976. After Rays graduation from dental school, the family moved to Puerto Rico, where Ray began a dental clinic for the SDA Conference there. As a result, of the six years living in Puerto Rico, the family is fairly fluent in Spanish. The family lived in Redding, California for nine enjoyable years, and was involved with home schooling and Pathfinders. The last two years there, Char taught Spanish part time at American Christian Academy and at Redding Adventist Academy. Char began teaching 5th and 6th grades at Orangevale Seventh-day Adventist School in the fall of 1993, and is pleased to be a part of the school staff and a member of the Orangevale Church family. After being a widow for about 2 1/2 years, Char married Rick
Novack September 22, 2002 during an outdoor Hawaiian theme wedding. The couple
live in Granite Bay. Rick leads out with Prison Ministries, and Char continues
being a Pathfinder Area Coordinator for the Northern California Conference. |
